Contents | Based on the long-dated collaboration between researchers from Tohoku University and Grenoble-Alps University (TOGA-Project), as well as from the University of Lausanne, the International Graduate Program of Japanese Studies (GPJS) of Tohoku University will organize an international workshop, "Oceans as places of exchange and imagination: Pacific, Atlantic, and the Indian Ocean." We will share our knowledge about the cultural, economic, and political exchanges through oceans during history.
Also, we will see how the oceans have inspired artistic and literary works and, on the contrary, how the oceans have been affected by human activities, especially in the modern period. Through these reflections and discussions, we hope to see the Japanese culture from a global point of view and reinforce our international academic relationship for the post-COVID-19 era. ★This workshop will be held face-to-face only.
